Individual Therapy
Old and Easy Hiking Trail
Envision a popular hiking spot in your area. The main trail there, hundreds or even thousands of people have taken, is very well worn. It’s super easy to take because there is no grass or rocks on the ground – no bushes, trees, or branches in the way.
This trail represents your current life. It’s old and easy… but it takes you to the exact same place every time. A place you no longer want to go.
New Hiking Trail
Through individual therapy, you and I are creating a new hiking trail, and it’s hard work. We stomp down grass, kick away rocks, cut back bushes and trees, and keep going down the trail repeatedly to make it more comfortable and easy to take.
Your brain is going to want you to take the older, easier trail. I’m here to help you make the conscious choice each time to work on the new trail and to let the old one start to grow over.
Our Brain Is Changeable
Neuroscience has shown that our brain remains changeable throughout our entire lives. So, let’s work together to create these new, healthier neural pathways in your brain and let the old, unhealthy ones fall into disrepair.
Ok, the analogy is helpful and all, but what do we do in sessions?
In individual therapy, you and I co-create ways in which you can heal from your past to allow you to find serenity in your present and future. We usually meet weekly for 45-50 minutes, and each session is highly personal and tailored to fit just you. Our sessions are collaborative and involve us each trusting the other to be authentic and vulnerable as true healing comes from these states of being.
When we meet, I listen closely and actively to what you share with me. Together we articulate your goals and the methods we will try to help you reach them. Each week you bring in what troubles you, so we can look deeply at it and work on repairing it. Over time you will get to know yourself better, come to trust in yourself, and be confident in your ability to address your life in flexible and healthy ways.
