Trauma

Okay, let’s get this out of the way first:

What happened to you “counts” as trauma.

Sure, we all know stuff that counts as trauma. Things like sexual and physical assaults, major accidents, and natural disasters. Those are clear instances of trauma.

But despite what others, society, and even your own head might have told you, other things count as well. Verbal abuse can be traumatic even if no one ever touched you. Highly dysfunctional families can be the source of chronic repeated traumas.

Coercive and troubling sexual encounters that aren’t a “cut and dry” rape can still be traumatic. Painful breakups of romantic relationships and even friendships can stay with you for years. Going through a major physical illness can be a trauma as well.

Your Trauma Counts!

So, stop telling yourself that what happened to you doesn’t “count” or isn’t serious “enough” and start getting the help you deserve.

You’re here because your trauma is affecting your daily life in ways that are upsetting and distressing. This might take the form of a formal diagnosis of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), or it might not. Either way, I will assist you in resolving your past without reliving it.

We’ll start by focusing on helping you learn to ground yourself when you are overwhelmed by triggers or memories. Little by little, we will unravel parts of your pain. You will begin to experience a shift from bondage to freedom.

It can be scary to move past a trauma and create a new life free from the tendrils of its influence. I will be there with you to help you feel the fear and move forward despite it. You will take the lessons of the past with you while leaving the pain behind.
